Mayor Bloomberg’s so-called Taxi of Tomorrow hasn’t exactly received a warm welcome, especially from the New York Taxi Association, which recently filed a lawsuit to stop the city from phasing it in on the grounds that the city’s own code requires it to make hybrids available to cabbies. The law says the city “shall approve one or more hybrid models for use as a taxicab,” according to the New York Times, and the model Nissan designed for the project, while efficient, still runs on purely on old-fashioned gasoline.
