We’ve previously chronicled Mets shortstop José Reyes’s wretched, ambulatory 2009 season, and, frankly, we were a little surprised when he showed up to give out Christmas presents at Citi Field yesterday that he wasn’t in a full-body cast.
No, Reyes was able to wear a Santa cap without it giving him a concussion.
“The doctors said I am supposed to be the same Jose Reyes, I should be 100%, I should recover my speed,” said Reyes. “I don’t know if (I am) going to recover it right away, but I am working for that. When I am healthy, I will be able to do the things I did before.”It’s easy to forget that Reyes, who was one of the most exciting players in baseball just a couple of years ago, is only 26 years old. The guy had so much trouble last year that apparently he was using Tiger’s doctor, which is a nice little “oh, come on” moment.
Anyway, if Reyes is healthy next year, the Mets will be at least marginally better, and infinitely more enjoyable to watch. No offense to Angel Pagan.
In other news, you can go over to Mets.com right now and chat LIVE! with outfielder Jeff Francoeur. We’re guessing he swings at every single question.
