If you were the type of football fan who concentrated intensely and exclusively on your own team, and your own team was the New York Giants, you would be completely bewildered as to why anyone would care that Kurt Warner was retiring. Warner wasn’t nearly as terrible with the Giants as everyone remembers — his QB rating here was actually higher than it was his last two years in St. Louis — but in the annals of Giants history, he started fewer games than Kent Graham, Dave Brown, and Danny Kanell. (No one will forget that six-sack loss to the Cardinals in 2004 that officially ushered in the Eli Manning era.) Fortunately for Warner, he was an elite quarterback at his other two stops, before in St. Louis and after in Arizona. Warner is almost certainly retiring tomorrow, ending a career that brought him three Super Bowl appearances and one championship. Warner is one of our favorite NFL players of all time, and we will miss him. And not just because our favorite team is now pretty much in the hands of this guy.
