The Mythical BCS Title Game Is Tonight

If college football had an actual national championship, rather than a mythical national championship, tonight’s game between Alabama and Texas would be a thrilling sports spectacle. We would have just seen Alabama push around No. 4 seed Florida again in the semifinals, and Texas might have just edged past No. 3 seed Boise State, and we would know, definitively, that these two teams were the best two teams in the country. Their matchup would be something forged in battle for all to see. Instead, it’s two undefeated teams playing each other, settling nothing except who holds some goofy-looking egg trophy above their heads afterward. Someday, someone’s gonna drop that thing. We agree with the current theory: To prove his point about a college-football playoff, President Obama should invite the winner of this game and Boise State to the White House in the offseason.
