Mets fans — who vividly remember his falling-off-a-cliff performance in 2002 and 2003 — might smile to learn that Roberto Alomar was, stunningly, not elected to the Hall of Fame five minutes ago. He fell just eight votes short. Only Andre Dawson made it in this year. 2010 is still off to a better start for Alomar than 2009 was. Don Mattingly earned 16.1 percent of the vote, by the way. Bert Blyleven missed election by five votes. Five voters, including the swamp creature known by the human name of Jay Mariotti, turned in blank ballots.
