Gary Matthews Jr. is famous for five things. 1. His dad. (Sarge!) 2. His amazing catch in center field back in 2006, one of the best defensive plays we’ve ever seen. 3. The Angels’ foolish decision to give him a five-year, $50 million contract after his career year with Texas. 4. Being named in an HGH investigation. 5. Making the last out of last year’s American League Championship Series, striking out off Mariano Rivera. Well, now he’s a Met. He’ll be your center fielder until Carlos Beltran comes back, and he’ll be at Met at least through 2011. (He actually played two games for the Mets back in 2002: He was 0-for-1 at the plate.) Don’t worry, though: The Angels are picking up most of the tab.
