So far, we’ve checked out St. Francis’s Peter Aquilone Court, Long Island U’s Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center, and a doubleheader at the Garden. Tomorrow afternoon, our NYC College Hoops Tour continues in the Bronx: It’s time for some Fordham basketball!
At 1 p.m. tomorrow, at Rose Hill Gym, we’ll watch the George Washington Colonials face the Fordham Rams. This is not a matchup of powerhouses: GWU is 12–10, 2–7 in the Atlantic-10, and Fordham … oh, Fordham, poor Fordham. The Rams are 2–20, 0–10 in the A-10. (In the Pomeroy ratings, they’re 307th, nine spots behind the team Isiah is coaching.) It’s ugly. But loyal Fordham alum and The Sports Section co-editor Joe DeLessio is hopeful — if by “hopeful” you mean “hiding somewhere.”
It’s the next stop in our endless tour. The rest of the schedule:
Monday, February 15
Fairfield at Manhattan
Thursday, February 18
Bryant at Wagner
Wednesday, February 24
Marquette at St. John’s (in Jamaica)
Saturday, February 27
Princeton at Columbia
As always, we watched our video game play itself in order to simulate the game. If the game is accurate — and it’s 2–2 so far — we’re in for a joyous occasion. Yes, NCAA Basketball 10 on the PlayStation 3 actually sees a 68–57 victory for the Rams, behind an epic twenty-point, twelve-rebound performance from junior Jacob Green. The key was a 38–21 rebound advantage for Fordham, something that is absolutely not going to happen in real life.
We shan’t lie: If Fordham wins tomorrow, for their first conference victory of the season, we’re grabbing DeLessio and storming the damned floor. Theoretically, we should be out of whatever cute version of a campus jail in time to do the site on Tuesday.
Saturday. Rose Hill Gym. DRAMA. It’s on.
