After Intense Arcade Competition, Yankees Open Spring Training Schedule

Mere minutes from now, Chad Gaudin will take the mound at George M. Steinbrenner Field and throw the first pitch of the Yankees’ spring training slate to Pittsburgh’s Andrew McCutchen. (The game’s on YES, should you want to watch him throw this pitch and subsequent ones.) The Pirates warmed up for this contest with a charity game yesterday against the mighty Manatees of the State College of Florida. But the Yankees got their competitive juices flowing at Joe Girardi’s annual team-bonding outing, which this year took place at an arcade. The winners of the various competitions are as follows: A.J. Burnett (Indy Car racing video game), Andrew Brackman (Skee-Ball), and Royce Ring (pop-a-shot basketball). We hope that Burnett’s victory included a cash prize: Like the rest of the Yankees who received a full World Series share, he’s $10,000 lighter today.
