The Nard Dog is surely doing a wacky dance around the Scranton Dunder Mifflin offices: Fulfilling the fun upset pick almost everybody made but us, Cornell hammered Temple today 78–65. Ivies rejoice!
It’s actually the first win for an Ivy League team in the tournament since 1998, when a fifth-seeded Princeton team – coached by current Northwestern coach Bill Carmody – beat UNLV. Cornell will play the winner of the Wisconsin-Wofford game, on Sunday, so plan yourself a seat at the sports bar accordingly. When Cornell won, announcer Jim Nantz said, “Big Red, Big Time.” Which is totally true.
It would have been difficult for the early games today to top the early games yesterday, and they weren’t particularly close. West Virginia drilled Morgan State, and Xavier continued the Big Ten’s disappointing season by cruising past Minnesota. There’s some fun ones going on now, though: Geographically speaking, the Siena-Purdue game is probably the most fun one.
But it’s all about Cornell and ‘Cuse now. Do not attempt to leave your computer until Monday.
