Good Night, Sweet Roberts

The Post has the exclusive this morning: After St. John’s wrenching loss yesterday afternoon, Norm Roberts will be fired as Red Storm coach after six years. Roberts, who came over after working as an assistant to Bill Self at Illinois and Kansas, has been at the school for six years but has yet to finish above eleventh in the conference. That will get you fired every time, no matter how nice a guy you are, how much integrity you might have, or how much you dreamed of the job. The Post says Virginia Tech coach Seth Greenberg, a Long Island native whose team is about to enter the NCAA Tournament, is the leading candidate to replace Roberts, assuming, of course, he wants the job. But sorry, Norm: You’re a likable guy, but six years is a long time to go without results. ‘Tis the nature of the business.
