The good news? Cromartie replaces Lito Sheppard (who was released) at cornerback, and the Jets hope that he’ll flourish playing in man-to-man coverage opposite Darrelle Revis. (Cromartie was a Pro Bowl pick in 2007, when he had ten interceptions.) The price wasn’t too steep, either: The Jets surrendered a third-round pick (that could become a second-round pick). The bad news? He’s yet to match that 2007 season, has irritated coaches and teammates (perhaps intentionally to force a trade, according to a former teammate), and is a terrible tackler, as most recently evidenced when he ducked away from Shonn Greene at the line of scrimmage during last year’s playoffs before his 53-yard touchdown run, which Cromartie capped with a cheap shot after Greene was several yards deep into the end zone.
