staying sane

Mike D’Antoni Keeps It Light

One thing we’ve grown to admire about Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni this season: He is not a moody depressive sort. After the first month of the season — in which D’Antoni looked as if he wanted to cry — he pulled it together and has generally comported himself like a man who has gone through two losing seasons but still understands that life is still pretty fun sometimes. It makes it easier, we suppose, when your bosses know you won’t be judged until next season anyway … if then. Thus, we got a big kick out of it yesterday when D’Antoni was asked how Wilson Chandler’s going injury would affect the team. He responded, “It might knock us out of the playoff race.” That is a man at peace with what has happened this season. That is the talk of a sane man. That’s a relief. We need him at full capacity next year.
