The Rangers Are Undefeated in 3-D

Had the Rangers been closer than seven points to a playoff spot, perhaps last night’s 5–0 romp over the Islanders would have been a rollicking affair. The Isles looked listless — Henrik Lundqvist earned a shutout, but faced so little pressure that he was only named third star — while the Rangers could have easily added two or three more goals on breakaways and two-on-ones alone. (Their passing has never looked better, though we suspect that had more to do with the Islanders’ defense than it does their own offensive prowess.) But even with such a decisive win over a rival, there wasn’t much buzz in the arena — unsurprising, considering the Blueshirts’ place in the standings and the fact that MSG had been implying all week that the Garden’s theater (where the game was broadcast in 3-D) was the true place to be last night. Boston, Atlanta, and the Rangers are all in action tonight, for what it’s worth.
