Even the Minor League Mets Are Awesome Right Now

The Mets might be in the midst of a torrid 9–0 stretch, but don’t forget about the roaming mammals of the north, the Buffalo Bisons, who are off to a 12–9 start themselves. (Former Mets on the AAA affiliate include Mike Jacobs, Ruben Tejada, Fernando Martinez, Omir Santos, and Bobby Parnell.) Anyway, last night, R.A. Dickey, a 35-year-old onetime prospect who tore his arm up and was forced to switch to the knuckleball, did something amazing: After giving up a leadoff single, he set down the next 27 batters in a row, a virtual perfect game. He’s off to a 3–1 start, and you have to wonder if the Mets will at least consider bringing him up if John Maine finally craps out. He might require another roster move, though: The “perfect” game’s catcher was Josh Thole, who apparently can catch a knuckleball, along with everything else he can do.
