It’s Jackie Robinson Day at the Ballpark

It’s a bad day for nerds (like us, for example) trying to keep players straight in their scorecards, but it’s a great day for everyone else: Today, the 63rd anniversary of baseball breaking the color barrier, is Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball, which means every player in baseball will be wearing No. 42 on their jerseys. (Including Mariano Rivera, though he always wears it.) Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports has a terrific column about how baseball’s racial legacy affects African-Americans currently in the game. And the Jackie Robinson Museum is set to open in the next year or so, and we’ll know exactly when, because it’s in the same building as the offices of New York magazine. That should help us with our scorecards too.
