Jay-Z Is Suing David Ortiz

The rapper who allegedly made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can is, along with a business partner, suing the Red Sox designated hitter, claiming Ortiz named his Forty-Forty nightclub in the Domincan Republic after Jay-Z’s chain of 40/40 clubs. The lawsuit seeks $5 million in damages and for Ortiz to forfeit use of the name. If we were Ortiz, we’d argue that it’s not at all a rip-off of Jay-Z’s establishments — which are named after the exclusive club of players with forty home runs and forty stolen bases in the same season — but instead a reference to the approximate number of runs scored and RBI he’s currently on pace to collect in 2010.
