Tonight, our Minor League Stadium Crawl kicks off with a visit to Central Islip’s Suffolk County Sports Park — it’ll always be Citibank Park to us! — to see the hometown Long Island Ducks take on the Somerset Patriots. At 2–2, the Ducks are tied with the Bridgeport Bluefish for first place in the Atlantic League’s Liberty Division, while Somerset, at 1–3, is last in the equally patriotic Freedom Division. Last night, the Ducks rallied from a 6–0 deficit to beat the Patriots 7–6 in ten innings. Their website calls it a “waddle-off win.” Really, it does.
Anyway, Sir Sidney Ponson gets the start tonight for Long Island, so that should be, um, interesting. Unlike our completely scientific college-basketball simulations, we have no prediction for this one. But if you’re going to the game — first pitch is at 6:35 p.m. — stop over and say hello!
