So much for the good feeling from the United States’ draw against England last weekend. It’s halftime of the Slovenia-USA Group C match, and it’s a disaster: Slovenia is ahead 2–0. Once again, the U.S. gave up an early goal, and then, after missing several chances to tie it, ended up caught in a counterattack that gave Slovenia what might be an insurmountable lead. The U.S. went into this game thinking they needed a win rather than a draw. Now they’d be ecstatic with a draw. This is the worst-case scenario, folks. To make you, and ourselves, feel better, we’re illustrating this post with a picture from our video game in which the United States won the World Cup. It might be more fun to look at than the second half. UPDATE: It’s 2–1 on a terrific, kinda bad-ass “I GOT this!” goal from Landon Donovan. Still lots of time left, America! SECOND UPDATE: In the 84th minute, GOALLLL! from Michael Bradley, the coach’s son. Holy cow. We’re tied, 2–2.
