Daniel Murphy had already lost the Mets’ first-base job to Ike Davis, and now he won’t have a chance to work his way back to the majors at any position this year. In just his second game at second base for AAA Buffalo, Syracuse’s Leonard Davis slid and took out Murphy as he tried to turn a double play, and an MRI revealed a high-grade tear of the medial collateral ligament in Murphy’s right knee. (A Bisons player told the Buffalo News it was “one of the dirtiest slides” he’d ever seen.) It’s the same knee that Murphy injured in spring training, but it’s an unrelated injury. He’ll be out for four to six months. [NYT]
