Darrelle Revis Is Being a Bit of a Headache

As a general rule, we find it prudent to side with a player in any contentious battle with an NFL owner; after all, if an owner decided, one day, to just cut a guy and not pay him anymore, he would, and would face no repercussions. Considering those rules, it’s hard not to sympathize with a guy pretending to be ill to send a message to management. That guy yesterday was Jets superstar corner Darrelle Revis, who feigned light-headedness to sit out a drill, mostly as a way of telling Jets owner Woody Johnson “I can sit out if I want to.” (The two are in a contract battle that’s too complicated to explain fully here, but just know that Revis is almost certainly right.) Coach Rex Ryan, just there to coach, is trying to stay out of the conflict while still keeping his team together. This is probably not all that big of a deal, and, frankly, it’s a little early to be talking about football.
