The Mets Don’t Need Any of Your Stinking Homers

The last time the Mets scored more than fourteen runs was June 27, 2008, when they poured fifteen on the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Carlos Delgado had nine RBI; the Yankees pitchers that day were Dan Giese, Edwar Ramirez, Ross Ohlendorf, and LaTroy Hawkins. Last night, the Mets scored fourteen in a thrashing of the Tigers, even though they didn’t hit a single homer. Four different Mets had three hits or more: Ike Davis, Jose Reyes (whose average is up to .277), David Wright (.291), and Angel Pagan, who actually had four hits. The Mets gained a game on the Braves in the standings and held on to their wild-card lead. (Magic number: 93!) And Carlos Beltran’s Minor League rehab assignment is officially starting Thursday. The Mets are starting to look awfully intriguing.
