Ancient Quarterback Works Out for Jets

Mark Brunell, who has thrown 30 passes in three seasons and turns 40 in September, is working out with the Jets today and could very possibly be signed as Mark Sanchez’s backup as early as tomorrow. That’s certainly a surprise, though the last time Brunell played semi-regularly, for Washington in 2006, he was better than you might think. Still: That was 2006. Brunell has every reason to keep playing: He’s $24.7 million in debt and filed for bankruptcy last month. The Jets’ side of the deal is a bit harder to figure. If Sanchez goes down … well, you have a 40-year-old man who has thrown 30 passes in three years leading a team that is built to win this season. The Jets certainly aren’t boring this summer. Even if T.O. isn’t coming, thank heavens.
