It has been a while since we checked in with Times wonder boy Michael S. Schmidt, the man responsible for the David Ortiz–Manny Ramirez steroid stories you tired of quickly last year. Schmidt hasn’t had any major scoops since then — almost exactly a year ago now, now that we think about it — perhaps because people stopped feeding him information illegally. Anyway, we thought we’d check and see what Schmidt was up to, since we’ve all been mercifully spared Steroid Outrage for a while. Let’s see: a piece about Phil Cuzzi, something about an owner in a bow tie, and various updates on Lance Armstrong and Tony Galea. Slim pickings. The steroid beat, it just ain’t what it used to be. Thank God. At least Mike’s keeping busy.
