The Rangers, who’d targeted a backup goalie at the noon opening of free agency, have signed Martin Biron for a reported $1.7 million over two years. The goal here, of course, is for Henrik Lundqvist to make fewer than the career-high 72 (!) starts he made last season. In other news, the Blueshirts reportedly upped their offer and re-signed center Erik Christensen, also for two years. [NYP]
