Which Pitcher Will Put Us Out of Our A-Rod Misery?

We all knew that the Alex Rodriguez chase for his 600th home run would be relatively joyless, but we didn’t imagine people would act like the chase was some sort of death march. It has only been a week since A-Rod hit his 599th homer, yet every night he doesn’t hit No. 600, everyone treats A-Rod like he just kicked them in the groin and stole their wallet. (He only does this metaphorically.) It is extremely hard to hit a home run; the home run’s difficulty is the reason 600 is such an impressive number in the first place. At this point, the complaining that A-Rod hasn’t hit his 600th is beginning to feel like a White Whine: Waiting for A-Rod to homer is taking FOREVER. Anyway, tonight it’s Cleveland’s Mitch Talbot, and this weekend brings Tampa Bay’s Wade Davis, James Shields, and Matt Garza, who could become the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter and give up a 600th homer in consecutive starts. Yeah, it’ll probably be him.
