Here’s Eli Manning, describing how he spent his Tuesday like only a professional football player can: “All day I’ve been getting tests done and just making sure there is no further damage to my brain or to my skull and everything looks fine. That’s all good news.” Yes, lack of brain and/or skull damage is indeed good news. Manning, of course, required twelve stitches on Monday night after a series of collisions — most notably a blindside hit from Calvin Pace — left him bloodied and helmetless in the second quarter of the preseason opener against the Jets. (It also left him with a partially shaved head, required for the battery of tests.) He’s likely to sit Saturday when the Giants host the Steelers, though he hopes to return to practice sooner. The issue at hand, according to Tom Coughlin, is a simple one: whether he can safely put his helmet on over the stitches. [Blue Screen/NYDN, NYP]
