Johan Santana Makes Everything Okay

When your closer is arrested for punching his father-in-law and you have a game just more than thirteen hours later, the most efficient short-term way to handle it is just to have your starting pitcher throw a complete-game shutout. Fortunately for the Mets, today’s starter was Johan Santana. The Mets lefty was dominant again this afternoon, shutting down the Rockies for a 4–0 victory. Santana struck out ten and gave up just four hits. On June 26, Santana’s ERA was 3.55; it is now 2.89. Using our grand metric, the Mets now only need to go 35–13 the rest of the way to reach the playoffs. No problem!
