The World Basketball Championships are at the end of this month in Turkey, and head coach Mike “A Leader Who Happens To Coach Basketball” Krzyzewski has his charges ready to keep the momentum of the 2008 Olympics alive. One of his assistants is Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni, who has been helping with the selection and coaching of the next All-Star incarnation. D’Antoni has been planning on heading to Turkey with the rest of the gang, but it turns out he’s going to miss the trip because of his balky back. He’ll be here for the exhibition game against France at the Garden on August 15 — plenty of tickets still available, by the way — but stay back while the team goes to Turkey. Our back doesn’t handle eleven-hour flights well, either.
