While the Devils try to work out a new contract with Ilya Kovalchuk that both satisfies the NHL and doesn’t wreak havoc on their salary cap, the league is keeping busy by investigating other contracts it doesn’t particularly care for, including one that has already begun. Specifically, they’re still looking at the front-loaded deals signed by Marian Hossa, Chris Pronger, Roberto Luongo, and Marc Savard. Apparently, the one thing the NHL did think to write into the CBA is a clause stating that they can take as long as they need to on such investigations, even if the contracts in question were already registered.
