No One’s Happier the 600 Thing Is Over Than A-Rod

For the last week-plus, everyone has been yelling at Alex Rodriguez to just hit his 600th homer already, as if he were some sort of tease, as if he weren’t the seventh man to reach such a milestone, as if any of this were easy. And then, once he finally hits it, you greet him with “CONGRATS* (On Your Tainted Milestone).” This is like a police officer giving a speeding ticket to a car in the motorcade he’s leading. Anyway, A-Rod finally hit it yesterday, and there’s even a nice story about a security guard who gave back the ball; if you ever wondered how a good New Yorker would have handled Tim Forneris’s situation, that’s pretty much exactly it. We encourage you to not read any newspaper’s reaction to A-Rod’s hit this morning. It will only exhaust you. Everybody wanted A-Rod to hit 600 so they could move on with their lives? He has. Now let us all be.
