In a bit of ass-backwardness, the Big East has its coaches vote for the top teams in the conference before they put together the conference schedule; the best teams get a tougher schedule, or something that is dumb but probably the sort of thing you have to deal with when your conference has 87 teams. Well, Louisville coach Rick Pitino put together his rankings, and guess who he has at No. 1 in the Big East: St. John’s! The guy who thinks both the St. John’s and Nets jobs are lousy says he likes the “nine seniors” from the team that couldn’t advance past the first round of the NIT last year. It’s important to be fair here: Rick Pitino has had lots of other issues to deal with this summer and surely hasn’t focused too much on prognostication.
