R.A. Dickey, who, seriously, has been the best pitcher on the Mets this season, led the Mets to a 5-1 win over the Astros yesterday, giving the team a series win over Houston and pushing them back to a game over .500. No matter how frustrated Mets fans might be with some of the goings-on this season, and as fashionable and fun as it is to call the Mets a “disaster,” it’s notable that the Mets are still above .500 heading into September, and that’s better than almost anyone had predicted before the season. Not that it’ll be much help for Jerry Manuel and (maybe) Omar Minaya, who have exhausted enough patience at this point that no one has even noticed the winning record, or cares. How can you tell? (Correction: The Mets are now exactly at .500. Uh, the rest of this post still stands, though! Sorry.)
