Could Tonight Be Javier Vazquez’s Last Appearance As a Yankee?

Quite possibly. The onetime starter and current occasional reliever will pitch tonight instead of Andy Pettitte so Joe Girardi can set up his playoff rotation. Vazquez, a free agent after this season, may be left off the postseason roster — in his most recent audition, he hit an amazing three consecutive batters — and with just four days and three games left on the schedule after tonight, and with plenty of September call-ups in the bullpen, his services aren’t likely to be needed for the rest of the regular season, even if he were to only throw a few innings against the Jays. At least if this does prove to be his last outing with the team, his second stint will end in less dramatic fashion than his first one did.
