All the cornerback knows — or at least, all he’s saying he knows — is that doctors told him his injured hamstring could sideline him for one to two weeks, but that he won’t definitively know his status for Sunday’s game against Miami until he tests it by running at full speed, something he won’t do until later in the week. He says he won’t play Sunday if he’s not 100 percent, and the Times reminds us that both Lito Sheppard and Jerricho Cotchery returned too early from such an injury last year, and would go on to miss even more time than originally expected. In the meantime, Antonio Cromartie is already taking on a bigger role on the field and in the locker room, though the Jets know as well as anyone that Revis is the key to their defense. Said Rex Ryan, “We’ve got to be smart with this one.” [NYT]
