To confess: We have not done the most exhaustive job of covering the Darrelle Revis-Jets contract situation, for three main reasons. 1. Contract negotiations are boring. 2. There hasn’t been a single piece of news in about three weeks. 3. These things almost always get settled, particularly when both the player and the team so obviously need each other. We really just assumed this would be settled by now. But maybe not. Yahoo’s Jason Cole points out that we’re getting dangerously close to zero hour here, noting once again that this is all because the Jets were way too public in their appreciation of Revis when last season ended. No one really knows where Revis is right now — espnnewyork.com sent Rich Cimini to go talk to Revis’ grandma, for some reason — and the season starts in just more than a week. We still can’t imagine this not being figured out; the Jets defense is broken without Revis, and Revis is broke without the Jets. But we’ve been saying that for a month, and still, here everybody is, waiting around, watching the clock tick.
