As of last night, according to Adrian Wojnarowski’s front office sources, the Nets and Nuggets were looking to find two new trade partners to replace Utah and Charlotte in the four-team trade that would send Carmelo Anthony to Newark, and Derrick Favors and draft picks to Denver. But the Bergen Record’s source says that Nets GM Billy King wants to know whether “the Nuggets are going to move on trading Anthony or keep everyone hanging,” and that if he doesn’t get an answer soon — the source says there will be a conclusion within 24 hours — the Nets are out. (Perhaps Wojnarowski’s source should explain to the Record’s source that this might depend at least in part on the teams’ successfully finding new trade partners.) In any case, it’s all playing into Donnie Walsh’s hands, as (to repeat) a trade involving an extension, like this one reportedly would, ends any chance of the Knicks acquiring Anthony next summer.
