The Giants Are Gonna Pass on Leinart, Thanks

Yesterday, Adam Schefter, one of those manic NFL reporters who’s so good that when he’s wrong you’re legitimately taken aback, reported that the Bills, Raiders, and Giants were interested in trading for disgruntled Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart. As of today, all three teams have said, “Uh, no, no thank you, please stop calling us, Cardinals.” The Giants were particularly snide about it, making sure the Post knew Leinart was definitively “not a consideration” and even leading the way to a Tom Coughlin/Tiki Barber hot-tub joke we really could have done without. Leinart isn’t considered the ideal backup for Eli Manning because he hasn’t shown he’s comfortable with the No. 2 role, he’s a pain in the locker room, and — oh yeah — he hasn’t been much good at all, ever. The good news: The Cardinals are still considering cutting Leinart, which puts John Skelton, Official Sports Section Favorite Athlete, one spot higher on the depth chart! Look out, Canton!
