The Mets announced today that two of the candidates for the club’s open general-manager position will get a second interview: Sandy Alderson, the former executive with Oakland and San Diego who’s currently working to reform Major League Baseball’s Dominican Republic office, and Josh Byrnes, the former GM of the Diamondbacks. Both men will meet next week with Jeff Wilpon, Fred Wilpon, and Saul Katz, while the other candidates — Allard Baird, Logan White, and Dana Brown — have been told they’re out of the running. Byrnes will interview on Monday, while Alderson will interview Tuesday. [NYDN]
