Has the Carmelo Sweepstakes Come Down to the Knicks and Nets?

So says the Daily News’ source, who tells Frank Isola that while there’s no deadline, it’s a two-team race between the Knicks (who’d reportedly been making progress on a trade) and Nets (who were part of a four-team proposal that fell apart last month). That same source says that Anthony has made it known through back channels that he’d also approve a trade to the Bulls, though they just signed Joakim Noah, whom the Nuggets covet, to a contract extension.

And then there’s Spike Lee’s reported involvement in the process: According to the Post’s source, Lee and Anthony have had several conversations in recent weeks, and Lee has told Knicks officials that Anthony definitely wants to play for the Knicks. (Since Lee doesn’t actually work for the Knicks, this isn’t considered tampering.) And for what it’s worth, even Donnie Walsh now admits that trade talks have picked up since training camp began, though nothing is necessarily imminent.
