It’ll Be Over Soon, Mets Fans

Last night’s 9-2 loss to the Brewers assures the Mets of their second straight season under .500, though that’s just record keeping at this point — one last indignity that maybe, possibly could have been avoided in a season that was lost long ago. At least, with the end in sight, the Jerry Manuel employment clock is quickly approaching zero.

Omar Minaya’s future, though, is a bit less clear. The Daily News reports that shortly after the season ends, the Mets will inform Manuel and Minaya of their decision to hire a new manager and head of baseball operations. (An announcement could come Sunday, but more likely would happen on Monday or Tuesday.) But unlike Manuel, who simply won’t be offered a new contract, Minaya already has a contract for two more years and about $2.5 million. So while he may be out as general manager, he may take on a scouting or advisory role. To be fair, Minaya has a good reputation as a scout, but, still, “adviser Omar Minaya” may soon be the new “consultant Isiah Thomas.”
