The Matter of K-Rod’s Contract Has Been Settled

The terms of the settlement: Rodriguez has instructed the Players Association not to challenge the Mets’ decision to withhold the remaining $3.1 million of his 2010 salary — the money he’d have been been owed after injuring his thumb in an August 11 incident in which he allegedly assaulted his children’s grandfather at Citi Field — and in return, the Mets agreed not to try to convert the remainder of his contract to non-guaranteed, meaning he’s still under (guaranteed) contract for 2011, with a vesting option for 2012 if he finishes at least 55 games next year. Rodriguez still faces misdemeanor charges over the alleged altercation — and for violating an order of protection by sending text messages to the mother of his children — though his criminal attorney said recently that the two sides were moving toward a settlement on that front, too.
