The Mets have picked up Jose Reyes’s $11 million option for 2011. The question, now, becomes what happens next: Sandy Alderson said that a long-term deal isn’t out of the question, though it’s certainly no sure thing, at least based on the comments Alderson made about long-term contracts during his introductory press conference. And as with any article about Jose Reyes, we’re legally obligated to mention that the Mets could also consider trading him, though it’s worth noting that agreeing to a reasonable extension first would increase his value, since he’ll otherwise only be under contract through the end of next season.
