We already know that Cliff Lee’s wife isn’t fond of Yankees fans, and now Rangers CEO Chuck Greenberg is piling on. Appearing on the “Ben and Skin Show,” a Dallas radio program, Greenberg responded to a question about Rangers fans’ postseason demeanor first by praising said Rangers fans, and then by ripping Yankees fans. Said Greenberg: “I thought Yankee fans, frankly, were awful. They were either violent or apathetic, neither of which is good. So I thought Yankee fans were by far the worst of any I’ve seen in the postseason. I thought they were an embarrassment.” (We’ll state here, before continuing, that the relative few who may have acted violently are obviously in the wrong, and that, in a very different type of sin, it’s true that too many people left ALCS games before they ended. We’ll also state that Yankee haters would probably argue that there are more than two categories worth mentioning here.) But either Greenberg really is painting all Yankees fans with an extremely wide brush, or this is merely phase one of the team’s plan to convince a certain free-agent-to-be not to leave Texas for big, bad New York.
