Antrel Rolle thinks Giants fans were wrong to boo the team as it left the field at halftime on Sunday, trailing 17–6. In fact, he doesn’t think Giants fans should boo the home team ever, under any circumstances. During his weekly WFAN interview, he told Joe Beningo and Evan Roberts that “you don’t boo your team. I don’t care what happens. You don’t boo your team.”
From the same interview, via the News:
“You know, we’re 7–4. We’re not 2–10, you know?” he continued. “There’s going to be ups and downs during the season. (Not) under any circumstances should you boo your team. That’s just the reality of it.”
Not that it would matter to Rolle, who repeated several times that he disapproves of booing one’s team under any circumstances, but just to be clear: As of halftime on Sunday, the Giants’ record — which had once stood at 6–2 — was 6–4. And after a half in which the Giants lacked intensity — Rolle’s words, by the way — they appeared on their way to a 6–5 mark.
In that News article, Rolle praised Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora for delivering halftime speeches that seemed to spark the team coming out of the locker room, commending them for “not accepting mediocrity.” Surely, even Rolle understands that those fans that booed don’t want to watch a mediocre team — or worse still, a team not playing to its potential — any more than Tuck and Umenyiora want to play for one.
