MacLean’s Devils went just 9-22-2 in his first season as an NHL head coach, and had scored just 57 goals through 33 games, the fewest tallies in the league. MacLean, who’d spent seven years as a Devils assistant and one as the head coach of the club’s AHL affiliate, will remain with the organization in some capacity. Meanwhile, it’s Lemaire’s third stint as Devils coach, and it begins tonight against the Islanders — who, like the Devils, have just twenty points and have already fired their head coach this year.
