Tom Brady Promised He Wouldn’t Say He Hates the Jets Anymore

You’ll recall that during the glorious run of Hard Knocks this summer, Tom Brady told a Boston radio station that he wasn’t watching the series because “I hate the Jets.” It was a refreshingly honest quote: He’s the quarterback of the freaking Patriots, after all; he’s not supposed to like the Jets. (For similar honesty, by the way, see DiPietro, Rick.) In any case, Brady was asked today whether he still felt the same way about the Jets, who he’ll face four days from now in Foxboro. His response? “Well, I’ve promised coach Belichick I wouldn’t say anything derogatory, so I have no comment.” (He then even paid the Jets a compliment, saying it “pains” him to do so.) Keeping a promise not to talk trash and paying the Jets a compliment? It’s almost as if he doesn’t even care that Damien Woody made fun of his hair to TMZ. [Fifth Down/NYT]
