Wondering How Much Gold Gloves Are Worth in Derek Jeter’s Contract?

Derek Jeter’s contract includes a creative player option for the fourth year, with a base salary of $8 million that could rise to $17 million based on various incentives. (There’s also a $3 million buyout if Jeter declines the fourth year.) Those incentives had been reported in general terms already: He can earn money for winning an MVP or finishing in the top six in the voting, for winning an ALCS or World Series MVP, or for winning a Silver Slugger or Gold Glove award. The last of those, especially, caught our eye, given the controversy of Jeter’s (let’s face it, undeserved) win this year. And now Newsday’s Ken Davidoff has the dollar figures associated with the various incentives: In that fourth year, Jeter would earn an additional $500,000 for any Gold Gloves he may somehow win over the next three seasons.
