Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Donnie Walsh has reached an agreement with former Nuggets GM Mark Warkentien to become a “high-level consultant” with the Knicks — and that his hiring is expected to lead to a larger, more specific role for Warkentien in the future. Wojnarowski writes that Walsh has had trouble in recent years convincing ownership to hire him “a full-fledged deputy,” but sources tell him that Warkentien’s contract has already been drawn up and is now just awaiting signatures. Warkentien was the NBA’s executive of the year in 2009, but it’s certainly not lost on the Knicks that he has, in Wojnarowski’s words, “institutional knowledge of the Nuggets organization and ownership, as well as a strong relationship with [Carmelo] Anthony.” [Yahoo]
