In terms of attention-grabbing Carmelo Anthony–related reports/rumors/noise, it’ll be difficult to beat yesterday’s Yahoo article about how the Nuggets reportedly told the Nets they’d trade Anthony to the Knicks if details about discussions weren’t kept quiet. Not impossible — this is getting out of hand rather quickly, after all — but difficult. So what’s up today on the Carmelo Watch?
• Amar’e Stoudemire reached out via text message to Anthony to tell him he “wants him in New York,” according to Adrian Wojnarowski’s league source. (One wonders how exactly that would become public knowledge. Is Stoudemire telling people the content of his text messages? Or perhaps Julian Assange has shifted his attention to the NBA trade market?)
• The Daily News reports that, according to a person familiar with the negotiations, talks between the Knicks and Nuggets are ongoing, with a 50/50 chance of the teams pulling the trigger on a trade. Said the source: “He’d like to play in New York. But I don’t see anything happening soon.”
• ESPN, meanwhile, reports that Anthony himself might be holding up a potential trade that would send him to New Jersey, and that, according to several league sources, Anthony hasn’t told anyone — anyone! — that he’d sign an extension with the Nets. Of course, other reports have already indicated he’s willing to sign an extension with the Nets, at least under the right circumstances.
