The Week Before Wild Card Weekend

The Jets wrapped up their regular season slate last weekend with a win over the Bills, and now that Rex Ryan’s chimed in with some trash talk (albeit about a player he won’t face tomorrow night), it’s time for a rematch with the Colts. Will Antonio Cromartie step up? Will Darrelle Revis get bored? Will everyone understand the overtime rules, should the game be tied after four quarters? Will the Jets, in their coach’s words, “put the shoe on the other foot” when they play the team that eliminated them from last year’s playoffs? We’ll know tomorrow night. But what happened this week that didn’t involve crazy video-game simulations?

The Giants missed the playoffs, and Tom Coughlin told his critics where they could kiss him.

The Knicks grinded out a win over the Pacers, then trounced the best team in the NBA. Amar’e Stoudemire remained atop our Knicks Power Rankings.

The Rangers — now at the halfway point of their season — lost to Florida, then beat Carolina in overtime on Mats Zuccarello’s first career goal.

St. John’s pulled off an upset of Georgetown at the Garden.

Andy Pettitte didn’t say whether he would pitch next year, even when a reporter showed up on his doorstep.

Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven were elected to the Hall of Fame. B.J. Surhoff was not.

And we checked in with Stephon Marbury, now in his second season in China.

That’s it for us. We’ll be back after the game tomorrow night, then return again on Monday morning. Have a nice weekend, and enjoy the game.
